- INSPECT AND ADVISE:
- Remove the stripped drain plug using conventional means. Follow special Service Instruction (SI) Bulletin as outlined by the manufacturer. This process involves a very specific machining process using a specialized tool set specifically designed for this application. This will allow the oil pan to accept a larger 14 mm oil drain plug and seal ring. The specialized machining process allows tool operation with very specific clearance to the oil pump in the drain plug orifice. Chip contamination is controlled by attaching an engine specific pressure regulator to the oil fill cap opening. This process does not involve an insert or helicoil. Once the operation is complete it is considered a permanent repair by BMW.
