    • CUSTOMER REPORTS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON WITH DTC P0301 – HE SWAPPED COILS AND PLUG BUT MISFIRE STILL IN #1 CYLINDER
    • FOUND: I inspected the vehicle and verified the customers concerned that the check engine light is illuminated. I performed a test drive of approximately three to four miles but did not duplicate a misfire symptom / fault. Using a scanner I was able to retrieve several store diagnostic trouble codes. P0136 oxygen sensor circuit bank 1 sensor 2. P0141 oxygen sensor heater circuit bank 1 sensor 2. P0301 cylinder one misfire detected. I inspected the oxygen sensors and found that it appears that the oxygen sensor at B1S2 locatjon has been replaced recently. Looking at the electrical connector I found it to not be fully seated. I was able to properly connect the oxygen sensor as required. I continued my diagnostic testing and found that the oxygen sensor voltage reading seems to be stuck at approximately 0.455 (v) while driving. Recommend substituting a known good oxygen sensor with the anticipation of having to replace it. I inspected the ignition coils and spark plugs and found that all four spark plug tubes have an excessive amount of oil in them. This is an indication of leaking valve cover gasket tube seals. The valve cover gasket has external oil leaks present as well. Given the age and mileage of the vehicle I suspect that the plastic valve cover sealing surfaces are contributing to the oil leak condition. I removed the spark plugs and found that there are two different brand spark plugs installed at this time. Spark plug replacement is due every 60k. Recommend replace oxygen sensor at bank 1 sensor 2 location. Recommend replacing spark plugs. Recommend replacing valve cover assembly complete with new gaskets. Recommend recheck and verify proper operation. Continue diagnosis if needed.
