    • INSPECT AND ADVISE:
    • Remove the stripped drain plug using conventional means. Follow special Service Instruction (SI) Bulletin as outlined by the manufacturer. This process involves a very specific machining process using a specialized tool set specifically designed for this application. This will allow the oil pan to accept a larger 14 mm oil drain plug and seal ring. The specialized machining process allows tool operation with very specific clearance to the oil pump in the drain plug orifice. Chip contamination is controlled by attaching an engine specific pressure regulator to the oil fill cap opening. This process does not involve an insert or helicoil. Once the operation is complete it is considered a permanent repair by BMW.

    • PERFORM NECESSARY DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND ADVISE:
    • Check and Advise I inspected the vehicle and confirmed the customers concerned check engine light is illuminated. Using a scanner, I was able to retrieve a stored diagnostic trouble code. P0456 evaporative control system fault very small leak detected. I had to remove the right rear wheel and the splash shield for the right rear wheel in order to gain access to the leak detection pump for a detailed inspection of the Evaporative System. Using specialized equipment including the use of a pressurized smoke machine I performed the necessary diagnostic testing and found the system to be sealed. At this time I suspect an intermittently leaking natural vacuum leak detection module. Recommend replace natural vacuum leak detection module. Suggests replace gas cap. Recommend monitor the condition.
